Exhausted!

This week has been so exhausting! It's benchmark testing week. Part of my job is to organize, schedule, print  tests, scan tests, and oversee the grade levels to make sure all the testing gets done and completed with accuracy.

That's about how I feel right now!

It's usually tiring to begin with but to top it off I'm doing online student surveys for third, fourth and fifth and my good teacher friend at my school is on unexpected bed rest this week for her pregnancy so I have been running all her copies and setting up her room all week (I'm happy to do that for her because I know she'd do the same for me if I ever needed it). I'm worn out! Luckily tomorrow if I can keep my eyes open after work I have my monthly scrapbook night with my scrapbook chicks! I think I will need some caffeine before I go!

Snow in Sunny Arizona??

Yesterday was probably the best day ever for some of the kids at my school. Yes, we got snow during lunch!

Believe me snow does not fall like that where I live. It was a rare occasion! I had so much fun watching the kids play in the snow, it was a great day! I have today and tomorrow off. Instead of Presidents day, we have a made up holiday the same week called Rodeo day. There is a large rodeo parade and of course the rodeo is in town.

Coffee makes everything better!

Sometimes living within one mile of four Starbucks is not such a great thing! It's too easy to just "stop by" on the way to work.

I only go once a week at most. My stomach and coffee just don't mix all the time although I really do like my morning coffee especially on cold mornings!

I officially just came off of my sugar high from all the Valentine's sweets. I had to force myself to go for a walk after school. I no longer have a "class" but a few students popped in to share their sugar wealth.

Health update: I'm finally starting to feel better although I still have a lot of chest pain for the first three hours after I wake up but it's a great improvement compared to two weeks ago. Keeping my fingers crossed that I continue to get better each week.

Elapsed Time Strategy

Happy Chinese New Year!

I've been working with a Biomedical Engineer Graduate Student from a local University this past school year along with one third grade class in my building. She shares lessons based on what the students are learning at the time in either math or science. I have really enjoyed my time working with her because she knows way more about math and science than I do and I have learned so much from her.

One thing the third grade class I'm working with is struggling with is elapsed time. I usually always teach elapsed time using the little Judy clocks or drawing the clock faces. Here is another strategy for solving elapsed time. I really like this method because the students are forced to show their work and once they understand the process it works for all elapsed time problems.

Hopefully, you will find this helpful for your class too!

Could this be the last round of meds?

I normally only see my doctor once a year. I've gone in so many times during the past six weeks! I still have a cough at night and a lot of chest pain. My doctor believes my coughing fits is causing my lungs to be inflamed and I'm caught in this endless cycle where I can not feel better. I can deal with the coughing, it's just the constant chest pain which is wearing me down. I truly sympathize with people that live with pain. It is hard!

I got another round of drugs. A heavy duty cough syrup, which will hopefully let me sleep through the night and prednisone. I'm not too crazy about the prednisone. I feel like I need to avoid everyone right now since I will be susceptible to illnesses being on this drug, which really doesn't make it possible in a school setting.

Currently February

Wow, it's already February! Looking forward to a better month of health! I'm linking up with Farley from
Oh 'Boy 4th Grade.

My daughter has really become fast at typing this past year. I highly recommend Dance Mat Typing. I made her do that for 20 minutes a day one summer and it really paid off!

I worked three full days this week! I'm proud to say, I didn't feel like a bus hit me by the end of the day so I'm on the road to recovery.

So, I was basically sick all of January. You can read all about it here. I just want to feel healthy again!

I have a lot of pet peeves but I guess my number one pet peeve is ungrateful people. A simple "Thank you" will do!
