Afternoon Project

Here's my afternoon project. It measures about 22x35.

I have really missed my pocket chart calendar I always had in my classroom. This calendar is on a large magnetic dry erase board. I will be able to write on it to remember important meetings. The best part? It's so huge I can see it across the room.

I enjoyed my Sunday morning by being abused by a personal trainer at my new gym this morning. As you all know, I'm still recovering from my tendon injury so lower body weights is something I'm staying away from. I fully explained my concern with my trainer. His response "well, since we can't work your lower body, I'm going to kill your upper body today" Gee, thanks! and that he did. Yeah, I wasn't planning on using my arms for anything the rest of this week anyways!?!

Last week was pure craziness at school. The good news was all the fourth and fifth grade classes were able to get online at the same time and take the benchmark tests with their laptops. Since it appears the air conditioner is never going to be fixed in my office, I ended up moving my office to an empty classroom. My 7th move but hey, who's counting! I forgot how wonderful air conditioning is at school in this endless Arizona heat.

I have to admit, I do love the sunsets in the Arizona desert!

A great message to remember

Last night I had too much caffeine way too close to bedtime. So wouldn't you know it, I couldn't fall asleep. I decided to spend my time I couldn't sleep checking out TED. TED is a "nonprofit devoted to Ideas worth spreading." If you've never taken the time to look at it, it's worth checking out.

One speaker I really enjoyed was Mark Bezos. I hope you enjoy the message as much as I did.

Watching a little piece of history

I had the chance to watch the Space Shuttle Endeavour fly across the sky today piggyback on top of a giant plane.

My friend took a great picture of this event. My picture didn't turn out quite so great from my phone!?! All the kids were on the playground anxiously awaiting the fly by. It was so cute to watch the students run across the field following the direction of the plane.

It was ones of those days I wished I was still in the classroom so I could give a lesson on this historical site we witnessed :(

Although I didn't get to give a lesson on the Space Shuttle Endeavour, I did get to work with the students today on what to expect next week with our Benchmark testing online! Yes, we are doing our testing online this year with fourth and fifth. All the years I spent in third, I taught test strategy skills but only with paper and pencil. underlining, crossing out obvious wrong answers to eliminate, highlighting,  go back and check your work, show all your work, etc. So I'm curious how this online testing will work. Anyone else testing online?

Let me count the ways...

As you know, I am a former Starbucks junkie. I don't go quite as much as I use to. I'm no longer a "regular" anymore (when the employees know your name and your drink when you step in the door, you know you go there too often - just saying!?!)

I've been amused lately by the names they have been writing on my cup. A couple weeks ago my name looked like this. I actually didn't give them my name, they just decided my name was "Silvy".

Last night my name looked like this.

Well, at least they got my first name correct this time. They only other way I've seen "Cindy" spelled is "Cindi". I think next time I go to Starbuck's I'll tell them my name is "Cynthia", just to see how creative they can get with spelling that name.
