State testing and a freebie!

One more day of State testing. Let me just say, I can't wait for it to be over! I think I'm more wiped out then the kids. While my class is testing it is my job to monitor and walk in circles around the room for 3 hours. I normally don't mind being on my feet a lot but my foot is still bothering me. Tonight my foot is all swelled up again :(

This year the school provided snacks and juice for the first break between testing sessions. Although the intention was good it totally backfired. Do you know how many of my kids had to go to the bathroom during the second session of the test? I also had 3 kids bouncing off the walls. It's amazing what a little bit of OJ does to a few kids! Did I mention how great my student teacher is? She brought me a Starbucks black tea lemonade today. A Trenta size!! I'm surprised I wasn't bouncing off the walls too!

Here's a graphic organizer I made for Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day for sequencing. I hope you can use it in your class too.

The past few days I have been given a possible new opportunity. Although I really don't want to admit it, I love change and I'm always up for a challenge. The past few years I have come to realize how very blessed I am to have such awesome colleagues!

Update on my foot & looping

I finally broke down and went to the doctor for my foot/ankle injury (3 weeks later). It turns out I have a micro-tear in my Peroneus Longus Tendon. It is the tendon that stretches from your calf all the way around your heal to the toes. I just have to let it heal. I officially have a doctor's excuse for not doing any cardio. I've been working out consistently for 9 months doing weights and cardio 4 times a week. It's been really hard going to the gym and not being able to do my normal workout routine. All I've been able to do for 3 weeks is upper body weights but at least I'm still going :)

I currently have a student teacher right now. I was trying to figure out what to get her as part of her gift and after reading about teacher bags on Clutter-Free Classroom, I decided to get her the Thirty-One Utility Bag.
She doesn't care for much flare so I had to pick a design that wasn't too much. Did I ever mention how much I love bags & purses? I might have to get one too! I can see why people like to use this particular bag.

State testing starts on Monday. I'm already looking forward to it being over! Did I mention that I'll be going down to second grade next year? My principal wants the entire third grade team to go down to second and loop back up to third grade the following year. If you have ever done a loop before - did you like it? why or why not?

Dictionary Practice Freebie

Here is a center activity I use after I introduce how to use a dictionary. This was not my original idea, unfortunately, I no longer remember where I first saw it. If it was your original idea, please let me know and I will give credit where credit is due!

I love how impossible the kids think this is when it's first introduced and after about a month they can find the words with no problem. After all the kids get comfortable with looking up the words, I use the same format but we have a "dictionary race".

I survived the week at a snail's pace

I made it through the week walking at a snail's pace. One thing I did notice since I was walking so slow was how green the grass is at my school. It almost looked like someone painted it green. I guess that's what happens after a week long vacation. Strangely none of my kids said anything about how slow I was walking. My student teacher did walk the kids everywhere this week but I walked with some of them in the morning before school started. Maybe they were just being polite! My foot/ankle actually feels a lot better today. The swelling is also much better compared to earlier this week (see picture - ignore the ugly foot). My principal has a nickname for me now too - Speedy!?!

I don't watch TV too often - I haven't had cable in over 10 years but I have to admit I have been watching American Idol the last two seasons. Ever since Steven Tyler came on as a judge I've been watching it. No, I wouldn't call myself an Aerosmith fan either. He just says the strangest things plus he wears the most interesting outfits.

Would you like a fly to go with your drink, Miss?

About two years ago I sent my husband to get me coffee from McDonald's. He came home and for an unknown reason I took off the lid before I took a sip. Well, when I took off the lid, there was a fly floating on top of my coffee - EWWW!

Ever since that encounter I have a REALLY hard time eating at McDonald's. In fact, whenever I order a drink from any place I have to take the lid off to check inside my drink. I've been craving an ice tea since yesterday and since I can barely walk and McDonald's was on the way home and has a drive-thru, I went to McDonald's to get the ice tea. I have to admit, I didn't take a sip until I inspected my drink.

Currently in April

I'm linking up with Farley at Oh Boy Fourth Grade for her monthly Currently linky party.

For my super power, I really wish I could fly right now. It would make getting around SO much easier. I managed to injure my foot/ankle last week and walking is quite a chore right now. Did I mention my classroom is about as far away as you can get from the cafeteria, front office, and the parking lot??
